Spring is here and we are very busy. Everything is looking great. Fresh Rhubarb The rhubarb is beautiful and ready to pick. We will pick it fresh to order, or you are welcome to pick your own. Pick your own price is $3.25/lb, Fresh picked to order is $3.50/lb. Please call ahead to arrange a time to come. (If we don't answer, please leave a message and we will give you a call back.) There are lots of delicious things to do with rhubarb, but all involve some sweetening! Rhubarb cake, Rhubarb Dumpling, Rhubarb sauce, Rhubarb Jelly, etc., plus you can combine rhubarb with other fruit such as Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, and combination fruit jams made with rhubarb. Of course you only use the stalks, the leaves are toxic, they are very high in oxalates (oxalic acid). The blueberries are still in bloom and our varied insect friends and busy pollinating the flower clusters. We are expecting a very nice crop this year. Blueberry picking will start at the end of June. The blackberries have leafed out and busy growing branches that will soon have clusters of flowers on them. There season for picking will begin about the second week of July. We will be planting the flower garden and some vegetables very soon. The first flowers available to cut your own bouquets will be in early July. The Story of the Sin Bin Our Sin Bin is for those who feel guilty for eating lots of berries in the field and knowing that they have not paid for what they consumed. To ease their conscience, they can contribute money to the Sin Bin. All money put in the Sin Bin is given to the Adams County Literacy Council. During the 2023 picking season our Sin Bin collected just over $700. After we closed for the season, folks were welcome to glean any remaining blackberries and flowers and encouraged to leave a donation in the Sin Bin. Our goal was to raise at least $800 total to give to the Literacy Council. We are happy to report that the folks who came and gleaned blackberries and flowers at the end of the season were very generous, thus bringing our Sin Bin donations to $965.00. On November 9th, Natalie & I took a $1000 check to the 2023 Adams County Community Foundation Giving Spree for the Adams County Literacy Council. Thank you so much for helping us to make a positive impact on our community. We look forward to seeing you at Yellow Hill Farm during the 2024 berry season. We’ll start the season in late April with rhubarb, followed by blueberries in late June, then flowers and thornless blackberries. We have Pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup from our daughter's family farm in Mansfield PA. Laura and her husband Nathan have a sheep farm, where currently they have about 600 head they raise for meat. This past winter, they expanded into the maple sugaring business and put out just over 1000 taps in their sugarbush. We have their maple syrup available here in pints, quarts and half gallon jugs . The price is $10/pint, $19/quart and we can vouch that it is delicious. The maple syrup is available in pints, quarts and half gallons.
